EXCLUSIVE: Screen can reveal the first trailer for Andreas Dresen’s relationship drama Love, After All, ahead of its world premiere as a Gala title at Zurich Film Festival today.

Love, After All follows Lore and Harry, a couple who have been married for 40 years and whose relationship has gradually driven them apart. When their young granddaughter comes to visit, and their grown-up daughter Julia announces her wedding to an older wealthy industrialist, the couple’s stagnant routine is thrown into disarray.

The film is written by Dresen and Laila Stieler, based on Elke Heidenreich and Bernd Schroeder’s novel of the same name.

Dagmar Manzel and Joachim Krol lead the cast, alongside Anna von Seld and Liane Dusterhoft. The film is produced by Meike Kordes and Alexandra Kordes for Germany’s Kordes & Kordes Film, with Andreas Leusink and Dresen for Iskremas Filmproduktion and Schubert International Filmproduktion. It is supported by German funds MBB, MDM, FFA, BKM and DFFF.

Beta Cinema handles international sales, with Pandora Filmverleih to release the film in Germany on October 8.

“Our film is both light and heavy, reduced to essentials and intimately focused, almost like a chamber play,” said Dresen. “Within its apparent confinement, it opens up a space for reflection on the essential aspects of our existence – love, life, and even death.”
