San Sebastian International Film Festival (September 18-26) has added six films to its 2026 competition lineup.
New titles competing for the Golden Shell include the world premiere of Fred Cavayé’s Les Misérables, starring Vincent Lindon, Tahar Rahim and Noémie Merlant. Studiocanal is releasing in key territories including France and the UK, and is handling worldwide sales.
Also selected is Border from Bangkok-based director Ah Biao, about a miner living in a border town who is inveigled into committing a crime.
Three of the other four selections are Toronto world premieres. Jesse Eisenberg’s musical comedy The Debut with Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti is understood to be premiering in Telluride before it screens in TIFF Special Presentations and will also close the BFI London Film Festival.
Two TIFF Platform titles join the lineup: Amanda Kernell’s Brace Your Heart, about a 20-year-old woman who inherits her father’s reindeer herd; and On Behalf Of My Son from Brazil’s Gabriel Martins, following a woman who seeks forgiveness from the families of an accident caused by her son.
Finally, Tony Vahl will compete with TIFF Discovery title Krux, telling the true story of German villagers given disturbing orders by the Nazis at the end of the Second World War.
They join the ten competition titles already announced, including Mike Leigh’s Tender Loving Care, Nicole Garcia’s Milo and Pablo Larrain’s My Sad Dead.
