Berlinale Palast

Berlin Film Festival has set the dates for its 2027 edition, with the festival adding an extra day and running from February 10-21.

The festival and European Film Market (EFM) will now both begin on a Wednesday, with the official awards ceremony shifting from its usual Saturday spot to the second Friday, February 19.

The EFM will have an opening reception on the evening of Tuesday, February 9, and will run until Tuesday, February 16.

The festival will have two Audience Days for the first time, taking place on February 20 and 21.

“Berlinale’s not-so-secret weapon is our wonderful audience; this change allows us to better serve them, while also responding to increasing demand from attendees at our highly successful European Film Market,” said festival director Tricia Tuttle. “We are already planning for the 77th Berlinale with much excitement.”

The Berlinale Talents and Berlinale Co-Production Market follow the operating patterns from 2026, running from February 12-17 and 13-16 respectively next year.

Record attendance

The festival has confirmed the record attendance figures for its 2026 edition, with 343,200 tickets sold to the public audience – up 1% on 2025’s 340,000.

Industry attendance was up 3% on last year, from 19,000 to 19,500; although still down slightly on the 19,968 figure from 2024. The 19,500 figure for 2026 included 2,288 press representatives.

The increased figures will be a welcome boost for the festival, after a turbulent 2026 edition that saw Tuttle consider her position following incidents related to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Tuttle clarified her thoughts following significant support from the international industry, including an open letter signed by over 3,000 industry representatives, and separate letters from leading Israeli filmmakers and over 500 Berlinale staff.

The 2026 festival also saw a controversy around political speech, or perceived lack of it, from high-profile guests at the festival, after comments from Competition president Wim Wenders at the opening press conference.
