Starting in 2027, Amazon Prime Video will exclusively stream the Emmy Awards in the latest example of a major streaming platform assuming distribution rights of a leading US awards show.

The six-year deal replaces the previous arrangement whereby the ceremony rotated between the broadcast networks ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC. Prime Video said on Tuesday it will “elevate the Television Academy’s mission, delivering new experiences and entry points for fans to discover, engage with and celebrate what they love about TV”.

Television Academy chair Cris Abrego said, “Our broadcast partners have been tremendous stewards of the Emmys for many years, helping to build them into the cultural institution they are today. Having a dedicated home with Prime Video allows us to build on that legacy […].”

Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said, “Streaming the Emmys free on Prime Video is another way we’re delivering the best in entertainment to our customers worldwide, and we look forward to collaborating with the Television Academy on this iconic event.”

In December 2025 the Academy announced an exclusive multi-year deal for YouTube to air the Oscars ceremony starting in 2029. Netflix currently streams the SAG Awards under its multi-year deal with SAG-AFTRA.

Apple TV’s horror comedy Widow’s Bay dominated last month’s 2026 Emmys ceremony, which was broadcast on NBC.
