Searchlight Pictures EVP of marketing Michelle Hooper, a leading light in the awards space and architect of many Oscar-winning campaigns, is leaving the company after two decades.

Hooper cemented the specialty studio’s place in the awards landscape. Under her leadership Searchlight earned 21 best picture Oscar nominations including five wins for Slumdog Millionaire, 12 Years A Slave, Birdman, The Shape Of Water, and Nomadland.

Her tenure brought 183 Academy Award nominations and 49 wins, and 133 Golden Globe nominations and 32 wins including eight best picture triumphs.

The widely-respected executive was known for her taste and creativity and was known within Searchlight as “the closer”, overseeing the final stretches of often successful campaigns. Hooper has already initiated the awards campaign for Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine and Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth!.

Prior to joining what was then known as Fox Searchlight in 2006, Hooper spent four years at Fox Broadcasting as vice president of entertainment publicity, and before that she was director of entertainment communications at CBS Entertainment in New York.

Her recent credits include A Complete Unknown, A Real Pain, Nightbitch, Poor Things, and All Of Us Strangers
